Nakshatra and rashi letters for baby names

Astro Baby Name is a baby-name reference in progress. It starts with free charts of the nakshatra and rashi starting letters that many Hindu families use when they choose a name. Source-checked name pages are coming: meanings checked against published sources, with popularity figures from official statistics for the US and for England and Wales.

Start with the naming letters

• Nakshatra letters chart

  The starting syllable for each of the 108 nakshatra padas, in English letters and Devanagari, with the rashi each pada belongs to.

• Rashi letters chart

  The nine starting letters of each of the 12 rashis (Moon signs), with the nakshatra padas they come from.

What we are building

• Name pages with the meaning and the source it was checked against, origin, pronunciation, variants, and popularity trends from US Social Security Administration data and Office for National Statistics data for England and Wales, where the name appears in them.
• Name lists by gender, first letter, origin, theme, nakshatra and rashi, published only when a list has enough well-sourced names to be useful.
• Free tools: a name finder, a name numerology calculator, a rashi finder, and a nakshatra name finder that will work out a baby’s birth star from the date, time and place of birth.

Until those are ready, the site has only the pages linked here. We would rather publish a little that is right than a lot that is not.

How we check names

Drafts are written with AI assistance, and every meaning has to agree with at least one verification source before it is published. Names we cannot verify are held back. Our editorial policy explains the sources, the checks and how to report an error.
